highways and horses
Highways + Horses is a personal diary of sorts with images created while on road trips from our home in Victoria, BC to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Each time we make the drive is a unique experience - different routes, camping vs hotels, the dogs we've got on board, pouring rain or forest fires... or both.
The horses and people we meet once at our destination are old and new, family and friends.
Having created five installments of this adventure, I find it interesting to see how my view has changed over the years. What I see, what I want to capture, what opportunity I want to catch while in the passenger seat.
What inspires me once at the farm.
And how I see the images once home.
This project takes place in 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2023,

2012
Though not my first trip to the farm, it's the first time I intentionally set out to document this trip.
Themes this year included the rain, the farrier, long shadows, and the buffalo

2016
This year's themes include accident delays, car camping and non-stop driving from Salmon Arm to Prince Albert (17 hours) and ayellow singed sky from forest fires out west.
2017
This year's themes include a very accommodating hotel, a bit of riding and trying my first long-exposures of the aurora borealis.
2018
This year's theme includes more yellow-tinged fire sky, learning about the programs at the farm, lots of portrait sessions and meeting one of the coolest families ever.
2023
It's been five years since we made it back to the farm and we saw lots of familiar faces and met some new ones too!
Themes include new dogs, new toddler, new family, saying goodbye and taking time for rest.
