dale roberts ~ studio j
Part movie set, part stage set, all the mind of a creative genius.
Dale Roberts, a local Victoria artist, held an open house and in doing so, opened up my eyes wider than they have been for along while.
From the moment I walked in, my eyes were set upon a feast. Colour, texture, texture, colour. Look up. Look down. Bits n' bobs, Donny Osmond and The Rock. Disney, bananas, British Monarchy, a perforating machine, suitcases turned into stories from his life. And soft sculptures by his partner John. It was all displayed in a set of rooms that could very well host a play. The kind of play where the audience followed the cast from room to room.
Dale’s art consists mainly of felted wool sculptures of notable figures in both 3D and 2D (that take months upon months, even years to create), but he also shows mixed media, alabaster sculptures, costumes, a MailArt project that has been in the works for years, large-scale crochet… and he collects.
It’s not easy for me to explain how some art makes me feel - so I photograph. And I took a lot of photos on this visit - I just couldn't help myself.
It was beautiful and creative and inspiring.
Please grab a cup and have a seat and click on the first image to scroll through the photos…
Many thanks to Dale and John for opening up Studio J!
Please visit Dale's website to see more of his incredible talent.
