It looked like summer, but felt like winter.
The sun shone and you could see your breath.
Loading gear, hurry up and wait. New connections, old friends and the feeling of 20 years ago.
Bum band playing live, hugs for the birthday girl, and braking for geese in Stanley Park.
Photo ops with a rented lens and random dogs... of course.

Siku died last week.
He was sick - inoperable stomach cancer.
I'd known him just over a year. He was friendly and fluffy and had beautiful blue eyes. He was always there when the treats came out wearing his signature red harness and collar. He was the big brother to his little sister, Niv.
I'd seen him most recently on Remembrance Day - we had a dog dork day out - and while the other dogs played and ran, Siku just lay down on the grass and watched. He wanted to be outside. And Erin gave him what he wanted... taking time to arrange outings with Siku's friends in his final couple weeks.
On his last night Erin, Niv along with both human and dog friends, all camped outside on their patio in a giant nest of dogs, people, pillows and blankets... because Siku wanted to be outside.
The first chapter of Siku's life was spent as a sled dog in Whistler. But as they say, the fun begins when you retire, and chapter two really began when he was adopted by Erin. Along with an adopted retired sled dog sister named Niv, they were the most adventurous threesome. No matter the weather, they'd often head out to the backwoods of somewhere to camp and explore.
His retirement was exceptional and the short time he had in part two of his life was something a lot of dogs can only dream about.
Thank you to Erin for sharing him with us...
He was a special soul and I know his spirit is in good company.
Here are a few of my favourite photos of Siku over the last year:

Got a healthy dose of vitamin D today... both in the form of sunshine and vitamin Dog too. Taking time out from working on a book of dogs, to hang with the real thing. It was dog dork heaven in the form of Niv, Siku, River, Cola, Saru, Chi Chi, Daffy, Question, Jeff, Sonny, Pique, Shrek, Whistler and the two wee Cocos... plus some pretty awesome people too.
Now back to work...
