"eyes that could launch a thousand ships" I took a break from the computer yesterday to go visit my friend Heather who's a dog walker volunteer at the Victoria SPCA. She was bringing Sky - a former sled dog - back to her house for a few hours so he could do zoomies in her (fully fenced!) backyard. Although the dogs at the shelter get two walkies a day, 7 days a week, they don't get much, if any, off leash time so on stat holidays when the shelter is closed, volunteers can get approval to bring a dog home for the day! And since Shannon (also a dog walker volunteer) adopted a former sled dog last year, she brought her Chichi over so they could run... like sled dogs do! And even Saru, Heather's shiba inu got in on some running action! It was so fun to see them doing zoomies around the yard, jumping into the bushes and then taking time out to sit and relax, get brushed and some all important loves. Sky is a beautiful dog who has a brother named Moon who went for an outing with another volunteer. They would love to get adopted into an active family so they could run... and then chill out as both are very good in the cuddle department! I love seeing shelter dogs getting time to be themselves, out of the shelter environment and learning to assimilate into new lives. It's sucky that it has to happen in the first place, but at least there are people out there who spend their valuable free time helping to ensure these dogs know love and kindness... and zoomie time!

These are beautiful! They make me smile and bring tears to my eyes at exactly the same time.
